SANDUSKY -- Cedar Fair, the company that owns the Cedar Point amusement park, announced Wednesday that they are buying Six Flags Worlds of Adventure in Aurora for $145 million.
Video: Park will not keep animal attractions
The park will be renamed Geauga Lake, which was its name for over 100 years until Six Flags bought it in 1995.
Six Flags purchased the adjacent SeaWorld property in 2001 and merged the two parks together. The company expanded the park with new roller coasters and thrill rides, but hasn't been happy with attendance or profits at the park.
Six Flags will still own the animals at the park and will probably move them to other Six Flags parks. Cedar Fair does not have plans to have animal attractions at Geauga Lake.
Admission prices for Geauga Lake have not been set yet, but Cedar Fair says they still have plenty of competition from other entertainment choices in the area.
Six Flags season pass holders will be honored or pass holders can have a full refund if they wish.
Geauga Lake is scheduled to open May 1.

Re: GEAUGA LAKE RETURNS !!!!!!
Thu, March 11, 2004 - 6:33 AMI'm very curious how GL will deal with the waterpark. For many years, their advertising campaign has revolved around the included waterpark, which the "the other park" didn't have. Of course, now that "the other park" owns them, are they going to change that?
Also, where do they plan on getting all that parking space from? -

Thu, March 11, 2004 - 6:52 AMCedat Point will be opening a water park this spring in Sandusky. They plan to rename the waterpark at GL and promote both a attractions separate from the park, although in the case of GL, also as part of the park, or so I am told.
