After a long absence the Urban Paradoxes and Flânuer blogs are back. "The New Urbanism: Co-opted" can be found at urbanparadoxes.blogspot.com and a new series on Cleveland, her neighborhoods, along with some thoughts at Flanuer.blogspot.com. I invite you to check them out and add your comments. If you find them interesting there each blog provides an opportunity for subscribing.

Re: New urban blog postings from Urban Paradoxes

One thing i've noticed about Cleveland is a distinct lack of Intentional communities and Co-Housing. I thought one of the women from EcoCity Cleveland was going to wet herself when i mentioned cohousing.
What gives that Cleveland is so apparently backward. We've got a diminishing downtown just ripe for new Urbanism, and the Gov. isn't going to drive it, where are the progressive citizens?
And I'm talking about the conventional developements like Bicentennial village either. -

Re: New urban blog postings from Urban Paradoxes
Sat, February 5, 2005 - 10:47 AMGood points, all! I have been pushing this since my return to Cleveland. Cohousing seems to get equated with hippy communes and orgies. As for International Communities ... as long as Clevleand stays focused on racial issues, that will never happen. I have had some interesting discussions with those in Cleveland's Chinese community regarding why Clevleand invested in a "New Chinatown" when "Old Chinatown" has much more authenticity and is in desperate need.
